As part of Hollywood Crush's Best YA Novel of 2012 poll , we've enlisted a handful of our favorite teen lit writers to weigh in on the tomes that touched them this year. Next up is sarah Dessen, whose "The Moon and More" hits bookstores June 2013. Often when I am asked to pick a favorite of anything, I’m totally unable to do it. I can only get so far as lists of three or five things I love and can’t decide between before promptly giving up. (Much to the chagrin of whoever asked me to do the task in the first place.) When it comes to my Favorite YA Book of 2012, however, I know the answer immediately: It’s John Green’s "The Fault in Our Stars." I loved this book so much. I feel like I know the characters as well as my own friends, I remember the tiniest details, and I can’t even write or talk about it without tearing up. (In fact, it’s happening right now. Honestly.) This is a book about all the big things—life, love, death, art—that also manages to touch your heart in the smallest, yet most powerful, ways. I’ve known John for a while now, but I haven’t seen him since I read this book, and I fear I might be star struck when we do next cross paths. It’s that good. Johnny Manziel is truly having a banner year. The Texas A&M quarterback won one of the most prestigious trophies in sports on Saturday, and he showed off his other trophy the same night. As Busted Coverage shared with us, Johnny Football is dating a Texas A&M senior named sarah Savage , who is also a model. Busted Coverage gained most of its information about Savage from the young lady’s LinkedIn profile . Savage’s profile says she is a senior marketing major at A&M. According to her profile, she maintains a 3.6 GPA at Texas A&M and made the dean’s list this year. Savage has the looks to match her brain. Savage’s profile states that she has been modeling since 2007. She says she has done photo shoots, runway shows, television appearances and promotional jobs. Manziel is a redshirt freshman, so it looks like he managed to snag an older woman. After his season that included a 10-2 record, a win over No. 1 Alabama, the SEC record for total yards, and the Heisman Trophy, he probably could have had his choice of females on the A&M campus. We all have different reasons for why pictures resonate with us. Sometimes those reasons are easily defined and sometimes it’s a bit of a mystery. As a photographer and as someone who spends a good deal of time looking at photographs, one of the most beautiful qualities of a picture is its ability to offer me something familiar without necessarily having a direct connection to the subject, something I can’t quite put my finger on that keeps me coming back. sarah Hoskins ‘ dynamic photographs offer us a look into something familiar, where there exists an established, poetic intimacy. Though the people in these photographs aren’t familiar to me, I recognize the intimacy, the humanity. We are inundated with pictures today that attempt to photograph humanity, yet lack a true sense of humanity behind the camera (and in the distribution of the pictures once made). There is something to be said for commitment to long form projects like Hoskins’. Trust is something that is established and maintained over time. Cultivated. Appalachia has historically been misrepresented, as have African-Americans. When you combine these two truths, it would seem as if the deck is stacked against anyone trying to make serious work here (rightfully so), yet Hoskins connected and she stayed. sarah Pfatteicher has been appointed CALS associate dean for academic affairs. In this position she will provide leadership for the college’s undergraduate programs, Farm and Industry Short Course, and distance education and international student activities. “sarah brings 16 years of diverse student affairs and academic affairs administrative experience to this position,” says CALS Dean Kate VandenBosch. “Her commitment to higher education and her strong track record leading both people and projects is evident to all who know her. “This position is critical within the college, especially during a time when we are seeing record student enrollments and increasing demands for workers with the skills our students demonstrate upon graduation,” VandenBosch adds. Pfatteicher has served as interim associate dean for the past 17 months. Prior to that, she was the senior assistant dean in the CALS Office of Undergraduate Programs and Services. Before coming to CALS, she served in a variety of positions in the College of Engineering, including assistant dean in academic affairs and the director of assessment. The holidays are upon and for weeks my husband has been asking what I want for Christmas, and for weeks I’ve been driving him crazy by not giving him any ideas. The thing is that I have ideas of what I would like but until I can pick out the exact version of it, I don’t like to say what it is because I like to hold out for the “right” one. And I don’t mean that to sound snotty, but just that I’m trying really hard to have so much stuff so I really like to really think it through. So for me to say I want a new coffee table or a new coffee maker doesn’t work until I figure out which one I want. He was wrapping presents yesterday so I may have missed my window, but here are a few things that I finally came up with that I would love to make my house a little more homey. First up is Horchow’s Ellsworth Round Tufted Ottoman . I’ve been trying to bring the seating area in the living room into a more close knit area to focus around the fireplace, and my line of square cubes don’t fit well in my new square seating area. My biggest vice is my coffee each morning from the coffee shop down the road. I really want to be disciplined enough to make coffee at home, but it’s a struggle. However, with the right coffee maker (i.e. one that has the coffee ready before I come downstairs to guilt me into drinking it) l think I could do it. I really like this Cuisinart Programmable Coffee Maker with Hot Water System for making tea as well. In the past ...

That means her Feb. 21 date planned for the Fox Theatre will now be held Oct. 9 at the same location. Brightman expects to release her “Dreamchaser” album in April. “Whilst I regret any inconvenience that this rescheduling might have occasioned for those people who have already bought tickets, the restructuring of my worldwide album release plan made it inevitable. Clearly a concert is always more enjoyable if there is familiarity with the music being performed and given how important this new ‘Dreamchaser’ album is to me, I am keen for those attending my shows to hear it prior to the performance. Don't let the mean mug fool you; strong black women feel pain too. At least that's what Behind the Mask of the Strong Black Woman by Dr. Tamara Beauboeuf-Lafontant claims. Beauboeuf-Lafontant set out to test her theory that the term "strong black woman" was intentionally established as a way of dismissing the real issues that black women face within a society. This façade has something relating the "tough black women" to superwomen; but even a superwoman feels pain from the burdens she carries at times. According to Beauboeuf-Lafontant, the idea of the strong black woman emerged after slavery to appease blacks for how harshly they were treated. "It was part of the justification for treating a group of people like they weren't human, so you could exploit them without second thoughts," explained Beauboeuf-Lafontant. "It's a very comfortable narrative to say in spite of slavery and segregation, poverty and abandonment; black women have made it. That means they're no longer on our 'we have to worry about them' list."
